Abstract:
This article is a reprint of two of Professor Maguire’s articles that appeared in the CALEA Update, published originally by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). These two articles were originally written as part of Professor Maguire’s work with CALEA’s Performance Measurement Subcommittee. They are intended to provide police executives with a brief history of performance measurement issues in policing, coupled with some practical advice for how to implement sound, well-conceived performance measures in their own agencies.
